Good news in bad times

March 21, 2020

Amidst the stories of human suffering sweeping our world today, we want to conversely bring you a positive message: one, rather, of human compassion - souls lifting one another up, understanding and alleviating each other’s pain.

On February 29th, 2020 at the S.S.G. Hospital in Vadodora, India —The Everyday Gita’s giving journey continued. We distributed meals to 350 struggling hospital patients and their loved ones. A hearty, home-cooked Indian spread of the following food items was provided to each and every person:

  • Khaman

  • Beans

  • Rotli (bread)

  • Dal (lentil soup)

  • Rice

  • Banana

  • Laapsi (dessert)

The Sir Sayajirao General Hospital provides yeoman service - practically free of cost - to underprivileged sections of the community and the common-man. Not only do those facing medical hardship come to S.S.G., but also those with the hardship of assuaging their daily hunger - with little to no monetary means to satisfy theirs and their families basic human need for food.

None of this would be possible without one visionary: Narmadabhen. An 84-year old philanthropist and community activist, Narmadabhen is the sole spokesperson for this giving mission - she has made her full-time job speaking up for these less fortunate people with her selfless actions. Everyday at 9:30 in the morning, she and her team prepares, delivers, and serves meals - all out of their own small but humble food delivery truck.

Moreover, she provides these folks sleeping bags, medicine, books, clothes, and even money for transportation to get back home after eating. Often, in addition to the food she cooks, she also gives fresh groceries to these families in hope that they can continue to nourish themselves for the rest of the day and week.

The Everyday Gita and its giving journey is inspired by people like Narmadabhen. We feel fortunate enough to learn from and expand our cause by teaming up with selfess figures and the communities that they support. With partnership like this, we become closer to our overall goal: universal empathy. With each new group of individuals we touch, we can cast a wider net of hope to more and more deserving souls. And in times like these, hope is the first, and the only path, towards living a full life: full of peace and happiness.

Jai Shree Krishna.
